Stephen is based in the North West of England and started on the comedy trail with two initial appearances at The Frog and Bucket, Preston, in summer 2014, both times finishing a close second.
This was followed with a 10 minute middle spot for Andy Kind at a gig in Southport in October 2014.
From there he finished second in a New Comedian of the Year competition at Chorlton Chuckles Comedy Club in Manchester (Alex Perry), resulting in being offered a slot on a pro gig in November 2015.
He entered the Yorkshire Fringe New Comedian of the Year in July 2015, winning his heat and appearing in the final in front of 400 people with Rob Beckett MC'ing the event. As a result of reaching the final he was also offered a spot in the quarter finals of the Leicester Square New Comedian of 2015 in November.
Stephen entered the Nando’s New Comedian of 2015 as part of Southport Comedy Festival, coming through the heat and finishing as runner up in the final.
From there he did a number of small charity gigs for Robin Tomsson (Myopic Egg Comedy) end of 2015/early 2016.
April 2016 he had a middle spot at Woofers Comedy Club in Lytham (Phil Walker) with Gary Delaney headlining.
Since then Stephen has done a number of independent gigs as well as several bookings in and around Cumbria for cheekycomedy, including Bowness with Justin Moorhouse headlining.
Currently being booked for paid middles and opening 20’s with a number of bookings continuing throughout 2016.
He is a clean, deadpan comedian with quirky one liners and dry observations.
Happy to send video etc. on request.
"Old whippersnapper and worryingly funny. Frankly I hope he stops doing comedy before he costs me work" - Gary Delaney
“Stephen Cookson has some of the finest crafted one-liners on the circuit today. He also possesses a finely tuned comic timing way beyond his experience as a newer comic” - Phil Walker
“Deadpan one-liners that were perfectly executed and written. Had one lady hyperventilating and begging for him to stop. The quality of this man’s gags are up there with Milton Jones and Gary Delaney” - Bryan Malcolm (The Haha Club)
“I really like him. Strong writing and good jokes.” Andy Kind
