Sean Hegarty has been performing stand-up comedy for only a year and in that time has exceeded everyone’s expectations including his own.
His aim in the first year was to play the Empire Laughs Back Comedy Club in Belfast, made famous by Irish comic Paddy Kielty. Not only did Sean perform well, but he also left the stage surrounded by a rapturous applause from grinning punters and compliments galore from world famous comedians Jason Manford and Adam Bloom.
Several weeks later, Sean was back in the capital, making his bow in the Laughter Lounge at the Oddysey Arena performing alongside Steve Cummins and Aiden Bishop, again leaving the stage with the crowd gasping for more. It was this moment that Sean realised that comedy was his forte and from there, he made comedy his life, performing up to 3 times a week in clubs around Ireland and the UK.
After many successful gigs at Belfast’s Pavillion and McHughs Comedy Clubs, he thought it was time to compete against some of Ireland’s finest and apply for upcoming BBC1 reality show, Find Me The Funny.
Sean was one of 6 winners and got to perform two gigs at the Edinburgh Fringe 2009 in the Guilded Balloon in front of 350 people.
